Another accident caused by wild boars on the road. It occurred in the late afternoon, after 6:00 PM, at kilometer 40 of state road 131 DCN, between Oniferi and Ottana, heading towards Nuoro. Two cars were involved after the animals suddenly found themselves in the middle of the road.
The impact caused significant damage to the vehicles, but fortunately no serious injuries were reported: the occupants were just frightened. The Highway Police responded to the scene to investigate and manage traffic. Traffic slowed, but there were no significant disruptions. The incident rekindles concerns about the uncontrolled presence of ungulates along the roads of the Nuoro province, a chronic problem that is particularly dangerous in the evening hours. This issue has been brought to the forefront following the tragic events of recent weeks.
On New Year's Eve, Marco Boninu lost his life in an accident on Provincial Road 84 in Bottida while he and a friend were on their way to Olbia for the New Year's Eve celebrations. While trying to avoid a wild boar, their car crashed into a tree. Earlier, in November, another tragic accident occurred.
Ciriaco Meloni, a 44-year-old doctor from Bitti, lost his life on the Sassari-Olbia highway . He was returning home when his Fiat Panda left the road following a violent collision with a wild boar, unfortunately saving him from harm. These incidents confirm how the presence of wild animals on major roads poses a serious safety risk to motorists, making it increasingly urgent to implement effective structural measures to prevent further tragedies.
