Two new positive cases of West Nile virus were reported today by the Department of Health and Prevention of the Oristano Local Health Authority . They are a patient over 40 from Siamanna, currently hospitalized in Cagliari, and a patient over 70 from Oristano, currently hospitalized at the San Martino Hospital. Both are suffering from other conditions.
The number of confirmed infections in the country in 2025 therefore rises to 29.
As usual, the measures established by the Oristano Local Health Authority's Department of Health and Prevention in the event of a positive case have already been implemented: epidemiological investigation of the area where infected individuals live and identification of their residential area to allow for disinfection within 200 meters of their homes.
"The key, especially for the frail and elderly, remains protecting yourself from mosquito bites, the insect that carries the virus," Maria Valentina Marras, director of the Health and Prevention Department of Oristano's Local Health Authority (ASL 5), once again reminds us. "We must also be careful to avoid stagnant water in the home: it's important to empty pet bowls, plant pots, containers, and children's pools frequently. It's also important, when going out at dusk, when mosquitoes are most active, to cover your body, including your legs and arms, such as wearing light-colored clothing, use repellent spray, and put mosquito screens on your doors and windows to keep your home safe."
Unfortunately, yesterday, 68-year-old Annarita Piras died at San Martino Hospital due to complications from contracting the virus. She had been suffering from other conditions for some time.
