The key is prevention , to be implemented with a dedicated task force for field interventions and extensive information campaigns aimed at municipalities, schools, and citizens. This is the heart of the new campaign to combat West Nile Disease , planned this morning in the Province during an operational meeting that brought together institutions, technicians, health workers, and experts.
Present around the table were the President of the Province, Paolo Pireddu , the Councilor for the Environment, Andrea Grussu , the Director of the Environment Sector, Raffaele Melette , biologists Maddalena Irranca and Cristiana Colombino , and officials Stefano Cadoni and Manuela Urracci . With them were the director of the Local Health Authority, Grazia Cattina , the head of the Sisp (Health and Safety Authority), Maria Valentina Marras , the entomologist Claudio Venturelli , Cipriano Foxi of the Zooprophylactic Institute, and Luigi Attianese of the Nuova Prima company.
The goal is clear: to build a coordinated and shared action plan , capable of integrating healthcare, scientific, and operational expertise. "It's essential to plan preventive operations now to be prepared for spring," President Pireddu emphasized, "working on a comprehensive plan that combines resources, professionalism, and a structured interinstitutional approach. A change of pace is needed," he added, "by leveraging what has worked and expanding our scope of action."
The new campaign's numbers are significant: 130 new mosquito monitoring traps , installed in collaboration with the Istituto Zooprofilattico, and 68,000 anti-larval kits that will be distributed to municipalities through a traveling campaign with information stands in public squares. Qualified staff will explain to residents how to use the products correctly and what behaviors to adopt to reduce larval outbreaks. Alongside technical interventions, the Province is focusing heavily on communication.
Councilor Andrea Grussu announced a widespread information campaign in municipalities and schools: "The battle is won by engaging communities. We are also planning innovative interventions, such as installing automatic dispensers with a prolonged release of larval control products in public areas, especially drains and street grates."
