Two new cases of West Nile fever have tested positive in the Oristano area . These are two patients over seventy from Cabras and Bauladu , both hospitalized at San Martino Hospital in Oristano.
This brings the number of confirmed cases of West Nile in the country to 33 in 2025.
The epidemiological investigation has already begun, along with the delimitation of the area where the infected individuals live to allow for disinfection within 200 meters of the two men's homes.
"As usual, we remind everyone, especially the frail and elderly, that it is important to protect themselves from mosquito bites , which carry the virus," reiterates Maria Valentina Marras, director of the Health and Prevention Department of Oristano's Local Health Authority (ASL 5). "Avoiding standing water, where larvae thrive, is essential: frequently empty pet bowls and water troughs, plant pots, containers, and paddling pools. It is also important when outdoors, especially at dusk, to cover your body, legs, and arms with light-colored clothing, use repellent spray, and put mosquito screens on doors and windows to keep your home safe."
