From Sarrabus to Gallura, passing through Ogliastra and Baronia: hundreds of tractors have been marching since this morning on the roads of the eastern coast of Sardinia, the first stage of a month of mobilization announced by Coldiretti due to the drought and wildlife emergency, two problems that are gripping the countryside.

The first procession started from Siniscola , crossed the 131 Dcn state road to reach first Posada and then Budoni, in the hamlet of Agrustus, where the agricultural vehicles from Gallura also joined the large snake. The second front started from Tertenia: the tractors traveled along the new state road 125 towards the Quirra range until reaching Villaputzu.

At the head of the procession in Baronia was the president of Coldiretti Sardinia Battista Cualbu, the mayors of the area and the president of Anci Daniela Falconi. In Ogliastra and Sarrabus, however, there were the director of Coldiretti Luca Saba and his colleague from Nuoro-Ogliastra, Alessandro Serra, with several mayors of the towns involved.

«We are located on the two points of the eastern coast of Sardinia, the one most affected by the drought emergency. From here we forcefully relaunch our requests to the Region", explains Cualbu, "It is necessary to intervene immediately with a provision that declares the state of natural disaster and at the same time appoint an extraordinary commissioner to manage the emergency. We must then act on the fiscal lever", continues Colidetti's number one, "by granting relief to farmers and vouchers for breeders who do not have supplies of fodder: not having been able to harvest barley and oats they need feed to keep going".

The long procession of tractors, escorted by a massive deployment of police forces, caused slowdowns on both fronts of the protest which will continue on June 27th in all the prefectures of the island. Last stop on July 11th in Cagliari under the Palazzo della Regione in Viale Trento.

Not just drought. « We are asking for a law to combat wildlife», declares Alessandro Serra, «through a national and regional containment plan aimed above all at wild boars that are crossing companies and causing extensive damage. We have our platforms on both drought and wildlife which we will present to politicians on 11 July at the regional headquarters in Cagliari."
