«Sardinia is the second Italian region for the level of separate waste collection and is a candidate as a point of reference in the Mediterranean in the field of waste management». The councilor for environmental protection, Marco Porcu, is convinced of this: these are his words in his speech at the opening of the final event of the international project "Med4Waste" ("Mediterranean dialogue for Waste management governance"), which takes place in Cagliari from today to 26 October. The objective was achieved, he says, "thanks to twenty years of work carried out by the regional administration, in particular in the implementation of the system throughout the entire territory and in separate waste collection", explained Porcu.

A possible result thanks above all to two factors, according to the representative of the Sollinas Council: «The municipal administrations have done a great job to explain to citizens the importance of separate waste collection and the Region has created a widespread network of plants that allows the management of waste in the place closest to its production, also significantly reducing the environmental impact".

In addition to the Italian representatives, those of Jordan, Greece, Lebanon, Spain and Tunisia will participate in the event, together to develop new governance models for integrated and efficient urban waste management policies in the Mediterranean region. «Obviously, Sardinia must not let its guard down», concluded the councilor, «we have also achieved great results at a European level, with the appreciation of our strategy for sustainable development, but to continue on this virtuous path and improve it we must find new and adequate policies that make it possible to achieve the objectives set by the European Union for 2030 and 2050".
