Twelve migrants were rescued by the Romanian Border Police's MAI 3067 naval unit approximately 46 miles from Capo Teulada. The group, aboard a small boat, had been spotted by several fishing boats and was located several hours later by the Guardia di Finanza's ATR 72 aircraft. During the air search, the Coast Guard aircraft also flew over the coast from Capo Teulada to the island of Sant'Antioco, just a few hundred meters above sea level.

The group, after being met by the Frontex border police patrol boat, which had transferred some of the migrants, then reached the commercial port of Sant'Antioco. Staff from the Sant'Antioco Guardia di Finanza naval unit and Frontex ground personnel were waiting.

The group was escorted by officers from the Iglesias police station to the Monastir reception center late in the evening.
