The new regulation on the management of urban waste which dictates new rules and tightens sanctions, approved yesterday in the City Council, brings to the Chamber the emergency of the wild abandonment of rubbish which is invading the urban centre , the countryside and the beaches. On the agenda, the recent removal of the five ecoboxes, the request for tighter controls and the new mobile environmental center located in the Sa Marinedda neighborhood with the consequent experimental suppression of the door-to-door collection service in the neighborhood.
Illustrated by the environmental councilor, Antonella Sciola , the regulation, among other changes, expands the access hours to the municipal eco-centre and increases the number of bulky waste to be disposed of, from five to ten. For the minority, the new rules have lights and shadows. "For example, the new regulation does not include beaches: the bins are insufficient and more days should be allowed for their emptying", says the group leader of democratic Olbia, Ivana Russu, who contests the disposal of the ecoboxes and the sanctioning response to uncivilized conduct. Yes to sanctions, however, for the group leader of Liberi Insieme, Davide Bacciu: «In the face of an alarming scenario, I don't see timely actions on the part of the administration to sanction those responsible».
The group leader of the mixed group, Rino Piccinnu, intervenes on the new mobile environmental centre, located until 30 September in via Giovanni Gentile, not far from the tourist port and the Olbiamare shopping centre: «I hope that the Cam does not transform a pearl into a landfill », he says and asks for an update on the video surveillance system announced on several occasions by the mayor, Settimo Nizzi. «We have 240 cameras set up and ready, we are just waiting for the authorizations to make them work», replies the mayor who invites the opposition councilors to join together to patrol in search of violators: «Enforcing the rules is difficult, I am referring to those who rent houses illegally and to those who do not collect the tubs to pay half", concludes Nizzi, defending the choice to remove the ecoboxes and that of the positioning of the new ecocentre, manned for twenty-four hours and serving the residents of the district.
