He fell ill during the ceremony in Porto Torres marking the 83rd anniversary of the sinking of the battleship "Roma," the flagship of the Italian Royal Navy, which was hit by German air forces in the Gulf of Asinara the day after the announcement of the Armistice during the Second World War.
The 70-year-old man, a member of the National Association of Italian Sailors - Porto Torres section, felt ill this morning around 11 am and collapsed to the ground, probably due to the high temperatures , while taking part in the celebrations commemorating this tragic page in Italian history with a solemn ceremony in the Piazza dei Caduti of 9 September 1943.
A doctor immediately rushed to provide first aid. The 118 ambulance arrived on the scene and, after treating the elderly man, transferred him to the Sassari Civil Hospital for further evaluation.
