The left-wing community in Cagliari is mourning the untimely death of Roberto Loddo , a well-known activist in the city, especially for his work in the nonprofit sector and politics. He turned 45 just a week ago.

Roberto Loddo was an activist with Asarp, the Sardinian association for the implementation of psychiatric reform, and president of the social cooperative Il Giardino di Clara, where he assisted people experiencing mental distress with work-related emancipation. In the same context, he coordinated the Radio Onde Corte project, the first mental health radio station in Sardinia.

Among his many activities, he collaborated with CRVG, the Sardinian regional conference for justice volunteers, a body representing volunteer organizations and associations in the prison system in Sardinia. For ten years, he had also been at the helm of the Manifesto Sardo, an online newspaper offering in-depth political commentary.

Condolences poured in on social media. Among the first comments was that of former Sardinian MP Michele Piras : "Today our political community loses a dear comrade, a cherished friend, a piece of our shared history."

"I will remember you for your freedom of thought and for what you were able to convey to others," writes Irene Testa , the regional guarantor for prisoners in Sardinia. "You will be missed by the people you cared for, by those you listened to, helped, and supported. May the earth rest lightly upon you."
