An Afghan national has been arrested in Sardinia and charged with aggravated homicide, along with two other Afghan nationals.
The events date back to September 2, 2024 , and are believed to have occurred in Sarajevo , Bosnia and Herzegovina. The man, armed with knives and pistols and supported by two other Afghan nationals, one of whom was a minor, attacked and killed two other Afghan nationals, brothers, first stabbing them with a knife and then shooting them several times. The three perpetrators then quickly fled the scene and disappeared.
Following the investigation, the Judicial Authority of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued an arrest warrant and requested the dissemination of a “Red Notice” for the international capture of those responsible, as part of the “Project Wanted”.
Upon receiving the report, the International Police Cooperation Service immediately launched a search to verify the fugitive's possible presence in Italy, located in the province of Oristano. The investigation was then entrusted to the Flying Squad.
Initial investigations revealed that the wanted man had applied for international protection under a false name at the immigration office of the Oristano Police Headquarters, and had been granted subsidiary protection status by the Cagliari Territorial Commission.
After a search was launched across the island, the man was located in a house in Elmas, where he had been temporarily living with other compatriots, after having left, an unspecified time ago, the place in the province of Oristano where he had declared he lived when applying for international protection.
After being identified, the wanted man was arrested and taken to Massama prison at the disposal of the President of the competent Court of Appeal of Cagliari, pending extradition proceedings to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
