Villanovaforru, sets fire to the brushwood and the flames reach the houses: pensioner arrested

During a joint operation of the Forestry Corps and the Carabinieri, a man was arrested in Villanovaforru for arson .

The arsonist, a 76-year-old retired from Villanovafranca with some criminal record , is accused of having set fire to the brushwood, with the flames that have spread to the outskirts of the inhabited center of Villanovaforru up to touch some houses.

The facts date back to yesterday, a day declared "orange" for danger in the regional bulletin, while a series of fires were already damaging the Marmilla countryside.

The man was seen setting the flames , and two reports arrived at the switchboards of the emergency number from the Forestry Corps 1515 and at the number 112 of the Carabinieri.

While the firefighting teams of the Forestry Corps and the Forestas Agency intervened to suppress the flames, the Fire Investigation Unit of the Forestry Corps of the Cagliari Territorial Service and the Carabinieri of the local Villanovaforru Station and the Sanluri Company arrived on the spot.

The investigators identified the pensioner and, considering the danger of the fire, the precautionary measure of house arrest was ordered . The penalty provided for by art. 423 bis of the penal code is up to 10 years of imprisonment.
