A bitter end to the year marked by anger and tension among the over 40 workers of Villaservice, a company that deals with the treatment of solid and liquid waste in Villacidro, who are seeing their jobs disappear and who with 2024 they will be put "on holiday", a precursor - say the unions - to dismissal.

On the last day of the year the employees - against whom a "collective dismissal" action was taken - gathered at the plant and one of them even threatened to throw himself from a height of 40 metres. The police are on site.

The Villaservice company - we read on the company website - is a company «that operates in the Medio-Campidano area in Sardinia, entirely owned by public bodies, its shareholders are the Municipalities of Villacidro, Arbus, Gonnosfanadiga, Sanluri and Guspini» . But the future is more uncertain than ever : «The layoffs have already started – explains president Enrico Caboni – and today we have taken over the industry».

On the future of workers, Caboni explains: «A technical table has been activated with the Region and Municipalities and we are trying to build a possibility by making selections ». The hypothesis of a "direct acquisition", however, is more remote due, Caboni highlights, to "technical and economic problems".

«From January 1st – underlines Salvatore Caddeo , CGIL public function secretary – the workers will be at home. Officially on holiday, but this is the precursor to dismissal. In fact, they will be replaced by other workers. A situation that, for those who have worked here for 20 or 30 years, like me, is difficult to bear. Also because there is no closure of the plant, we will simply be replaced."

As for the colleague who threatened to throw himself into the void, Caddeo comments: "It was to be expected, when a person has nothing left to lose they are even willing to make extreme gestures."
