The cleaning operation of the Badu 'e Caprile riverbed , which crosses the municipality of Viddalba, is being completed by the Northern Sardinia Land Reclamation Consortium.
"The intervention, which is nearing completion, includes cleaning the riverbed, which is being freed from all vegetation," explains Giosuè Brundu, the general manager of the Authority, "restoring the service lanes to monitor critical points, re-sectioning the central channel, i.e. the low-water channel, a groove that allows the orderly flow of water during periods of low rainfall and that keeps the riverbed more orderly, clean and safe in the event of floods."
The works, for a value of 160 thousand euros, were entrusted to the Consorzio di Bonifica del Nord Sardegna by the Sardinia Region, through the Civil Engineering Service of Sassari. « We are making the town of Viddalba safe from a hydrogeological point of view in a joint work between our Consortium and the Civil Engineering that entrusted us with the works – explains Toni Stangoni, president of the Consortium -. This confirms our centrality, as a Consortium of Bonifica to be active bodies in favor of the hydraulic safety of the territory. In fact, vehicles and manpower are engaged not only in cleaning the riverbed , but also in structuring a reasoned flow of water that guarantees that this work is long-lasting . These are fundamental prevention interventions – continues the president - and, given the climate changes underway, they place before us the certainty of having carried out a necessary work».
The Badu 'e Caprile river extends in the section affected by the works for over three kilometers starting from the north-west part of the town until it flows into the Coghinas river to the south-east of the town.
