Veterinarians blocked by anti-vaxxers in Masainas, the Local Health Authority (ASL) says, "Now we're filing a complaint."

The Sulcis Iglesiente Local Health Authority (ASL) has responded forcefully to the incident at a farm in Masainas, where around sixty activists gathered to block vaccination against lumpy skin disease in cattle.

The ASL veterinarians were taunted with expressions such as "shame," "servants of the system," and "healthy animals aren't vaccinated" by many of those present, attempting to support the owner, Samuel Caboni.

"From the information gathered," the health authority explains, "it also emerges that the breeder in question expressed his opposition to vaccination and that the group's presence was his own initiative. It is also noted that disciplinary measures have already been taken against him in the past for non-compliance with health regulations." A statement highlights "verbal pressure" and points the finger at "behaviors aimed at preventing the vaccinations from being carried out."

The episode, the official statement further explains, "generated a situation of strong tension and prevented the proper implementation of a mandatory health intervention required by current legislation."
The Local Health Authority reiterates that "the veterinary staff operated professionally and in full compliance with health regulations, in the sole interest of protecting livestock and public health. Animal disease prevention and control activities are a fundamental safeguard for the protection of livestock, food safety, and the community, in accordance with the One Health approach, which recognizes the inseparable link between animal health, human health, and the environment."

The videos circulated to document the incident are also under scrutiny, as they are considered "an additional element of seriousness . This circumstance will also be reported and evaluated as part of the complaint that will be filed with the competent authorities."
