Increasing migrant landings among swimmers: security emergency between the coast and Monastir

Migrants from Algeria continue to disembark among swimmers on the southern coast of Sardinia. Yesterday, Saturday, September 5th, two incidents were reported that echoed the incident that led to the injury of a young woman in Chia , just before the August bank holiday: the young woman was swept away while in the water.

A group of about ten foreigners landed in Tuerredda: the bow of the vessel pointed toward the rocks, just a short distance from the shore, an area crowded with hundreds of Sardinians and tourists enjoying the sunny day. The North Africans then abandoned the vessel there to flee and try to disappear on foot.

Things went differently in Santa Margherita di Pula. According to some witnesses, when the small boat approached the shore, it was forced to move away due to the reaction of those on shore. Meanwhile, another disembarkation was reported in the small port of Porto Pino.

The phenomenon of unauthorized arrivals in Sardinia has intensified in recent days. All foreigners are being diverted to the extraordinary reception center in Monastir, where the situation has become explosive. The number of guests is double the number expected by the nominal capacity. Incidents of violence and petty crime are also increasing. On Friday morning, an Algerian man stabbed himself with a scalpel while trying to escape punishment after being caught stealing from the management offices.

Around the center, as reported by Alessandro Congiu, secretary of the ADP police union, thefts have increased: "Cars are stolen and then used to drive to Poetto and commit thefts." So much so that numerous smartphones, after being seized from their rightful owners while they were swimming, are located inside the Monastir CAS (Residential Unit).
