The speed limit on the old Orientale sarda, from Gannì to San Gregorio (a distance of about 10 kilometers), has been lowered to 30 km/h. In the next stretch, from “San Gregorio” to “Arcu e Tidu” the limit is 40. And in Burcei the protest is mounting.

The council group "Burcei libera", composed of Alessandra Lussu, Paola Zuncheddu and Antonello Monni, is interpreting the situation. In a press release they wrote that "the Burcerese community, composed mainly of commuters, denounces the weight and unbearability of the enormous daily inconveniences that it is suffering and that it will have to face even more heavily in order to reach almost all the services concentrated in Cagliari and the hinterland: from school services to hospital services; from airport and maritime services to those for going to work, most of which are outside the town".

A daily sacrifice "that our citizens face with the use of their own vehicles or with Arst vehicles. Unfortunately, the Sp 21 and the Statale 125 represent for Burcei the only possible connection both for reaching Campidano and Sarrabus".

The lowering of the speed limit to 30 km/h, continues the "Burcei libera" document, «can be understood within urban centers and/or on road sections regardless of their classification, in the case of maintenance work, but it is not understood as imposed. Furthermore, the reasons that determined it are not known. What is certain is that if imposed as a "structural" measure for the protection of safety, since it is a stretch of extra-urban road, it is not clear why. The old speed limit of 50 km/h has demonstrated the low incidence of serious road accidents».

There are now fears of the long queues that are destined to form if everyone respects the new limit, with inconvenience for everyone.

"It should not be underestimated," the document concludes, "that the possible installation of speed detectors (speed cameras) by the municipalities of Quartucciu, Maracalagonis and Sinnai would heavily penalize all those who exceed, even by just a few kilometers, the imposed speed limit."

This measure "represents for the citizens of Burcei the risk of seeing the situation of isolation worsen, which has already triggered the very serious phenomenon of depopulation towards the Campidano areas or even outside Sardinia. At the same time, for those who are interested in this territory, a risk of giving up visiting our wonderful nature trails and beautiful landscapes".
