A €160,000 project to make the trails on the Sant'Elia hill in Cagliari accessible. The funding was approved by a resolution of the City Council led by Massimo Zedda.
They will be accessible on foot, well signposted, and separated from restricted areas to protect the most fragile natural areas, in an area that is part of the Special Conservation Area.
The network includes a main trail, based on the existing route that serves as a hiking entry point along Viale Calamosca and leads to the viewpoint and archaeological sites at the top of the hill, and two other secondary routes, with circular routes, which are also important for diversifying hiking opportunities and distributing traffic loads.
New horizontal and vertical signage will also be installed, in line with the guidelines of the Sardinia Hiking Network and the standards of the Italian Alpine Club. Existing structures, such as fences, will be maintained, and trail markers and closures made from local natural materials will be installed. The goal is "to promote the orderly and safe use of one of Cagliari's most beautiful areas (the difficulty level is moderate, and the routes are limited to less than half a day), while preserving the archaeological and naturalistic importance of the entire area."
