Vandalism against the church of San Gavino in Gavoi, the mayor: "This town isn't the Wild West."

Windows and doors were damaged, and the square was left in a state of serious disrepair, with rubbish and fireworks debris strewn everywhere.
This is the result of the vandalism reported in recent days at the church of San Gavino and the surrounding area, which has prompted a strong response from Gavoi's mayor, Salvatore Lai, who publicly denounced the incident in a post on social media.
The mayor reported that he only recently learned that unknown individuals had been using the church and its square as a venue for pranks and uncontrolled celebrations, with no respect for the sacred nature of the spaces or for the decorum and cleanliness of an area designated for worship and community gatherings.
In his speech, the mayor expressed his personal solidarity and that of the municipal administration with Father Michele Casula and the community of believers, while firmly condemning what happened. According to Lai, this episode represents a worrying sign of a lack of awareness and respect for the rules, especially considering that any events or celebrations could have taken place in other, more suitable and safer locations. Particular attention is being paid to the material damage, which someone will have to pay for, as well as the costs of cleaning the square. The mayor emphasized that respect for public property and the community's symbolic places cannot be overlooked, even during New Year's celebrations. While understanding the enthusiasm surrounding the passage to the new year and the traditions that remain widespread, the mayor reiterated that Gavoi cannot become a "Wild West" and that having fun does not mean overstepping the bounds of respect and safety for people and property. The post concludes with a direct appeal to those responsible for the vandalism, inviting them to come to the Town Hall for clarification, out of respect for the rules of civil coexistence and responsibility.
