The Sardinian population that has completed the vaccination cycle is growing, but slowly.

Also pushed by the new rules on the Green pass, recalcitrant Sardinians are approaching the first doses that have seen a leap in recent days, passing from an average of 600 per day to about 1,000. Not yesterday, however, on the day of the Immaculate Conception only a hundred first administrations, while the positive trend of "boosters" continues. In the meantime, the Gimbe Foundation confirms that the Sardinians who received the two initial doses represent 78.6% of the resident population, just above the Italian average which stops at 77.3%.

To these, however, we must add a further 2.4% (the average in Italy is 2.8%) who received only the first dose.

Compared to the over 12 age group, however, the percentage of vaccinated with two doses rises to 84.4%: in absolute terms, 1,256,588 people with two doses. Of these, however, 330,389 people (26.3%) were vaccinated more than 6 months ago and the third dose vaccination coverage rate is 45.1% (the Italian average is 46.8%).

"The evolution of the epidemiological picture is followed with the utmost attention. In Sardinia the vaccination campaign continues strongly" the words of the governor of Sardinia, Christian Solinas, recalling that to date 1.3 million Sardinians have completed the cycle.

"In this phase we detect a new growth of the first doses - adds Solinas - The third doses are also growing and we are ready to vaccinate the youngest with the strengthening of the vaccination hubs and points. We have achieved important results and the priorities do not change, we will continue to protect the health of citizens and our production activities ".

"The vaccine - declares the regional councilor for health, Mario Nieddu - remains our strongest weapon against the virus and in this sense the epidemiological data speak clearly especially as regards hospitalizations. The variants, however, remain a threat and we must keep our guard up ”.

"Unfortunately, Covid has always given us surprises - continues Nieddu - We are on the right path and individual behavior will continue to make a difference in this battle".

With regard, instead, to the trend of infections, in an epidemiological framework that records a growth trend throughout the country, Sardinia - as the Region highlights - marks an increase of 13% more contained than the national average which settles instead at 22.4%. On the island there are 192 positive cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, the third lowest figure at national level after Molise and Puglia and against an Italian average of 418 cases.

The occupancy rates of beds continue to be below the critical threshold both in hospitalizations in the medical area (6%, a figure better than the national average which marks 10%) and in intensive care (4%, against a national figure that attests to 9%).
