An inmate of the "transit" department grabbed a shovel and hit a prison officer several times, injuring him in the mouth. The complaint about the umpteenth assault inside the Uta prison is by Michele Cireddu, general secretary of the Uil-Pa Prison Police.

«The exorbitant number of attacks against the staff clearly certifies the failure of the penitentiary system not only in Sardinia», attacks the trade unionist, «assaults, suicides, fights between prisoners, self-harm, suicide attempts, introduction of unauthorized objects, they are now on the agenda and no one, much less the political class, lifts a finger to remedy this mess".

According to the data provided by Cireddu "the prison of Uta is the scene of a number of critical events which, in proportion to the number of inmates, has the sad record for the number of events of the entire peninsula: this should have at least concentrated every possible intervention to improve the trend, and instead everything is silent because the policemen remain to manage the prison sections who, in a state of total abandonment, desperately try to guarantee legality ».
