Moments of high tension today in the Uta prison where the inmate, already known for violent behavior, after making the phone call to his family, demanded to go to the infirmary "for no apparent reason". According to what is learned when the agent told him to wait in the cell , he grabbed a stick and threw himself at the policeman , hitting him violently. With difficulty and thanks to the intervention of another agent, who rushed to help his colleague, he was immobilized and taken back to his cell with obvious physical consequences for the two policemen, who were transported to the emergency room of a hospital in Cagliari.

Once back in the cell, the prisoner started a fire putting the other inmates in the section at risk. Also in this case the intervention of other agents was providential who managed to rescue him and tame the flames before they could spread dangerously.

"A number of critical events occur in Uta which, with the numerical proportions of the prison population, is unparalleled in the whole peninsula", says Michele Cireddu, Secretary General of the Uil Pa - Penitentiary Police of Sardinia . “It is now a trickle of critical events”, continues Cireddu: “Attacks on operators, fights between prisoners, self-harm. The agents are exhausted, the Uta Institute has become a real hell and all these dynamics do nothing but create physical and psychological damage to the operators. To bear in solitude the impact of a system adrift, where no intervention by the top management and other institutions is perceived, becomes exhausting. Thus - concludes Cireddu - we cannot go on. The top management of the administration, the institutions and politics continue to pretend that everything is fine, meanwhile the agents representing the state continue to pay for the inertia of those who should intervene ”, he concludes.

Giovanni Villa, regional secretary general of the FNS CISL is also tough: “The attacks of inmates against the representatives of the state in our prisons are no longer counted. The Penitentiary Police have been a target for too long. Let's say enough and ask for urgent and targeted interventions to solve this dramatic phenomenon. In the meantime - continues Villa - remove the dynamic surveillance and close the inmates in cells, at least the most troubled ones, given that they are not ready to comply with the regulations ”.

"Another issue - continues the general secretary of the FNS CISL - is that of psychiatric prisoners. A regulatory intervention is urgently needed considering that they are unable to expand the residence facilities for the execution of security measures, or restore the Opg. abandon, we are not meat to be slaughtered. By now - concludes Giovanni Villa - we are close to the elections and soon we will have a new government, I hope it will do better than the past ones and will give us the right attention ".
