Stop expropriations for the Tyrrhenian Link in the Selargius countryside. This is what was requested in a complaint to the public prosecutor's office of Cagliari presented this morning by the committee opposing Terna 's work. The project in question is the one intended to connect Sicily with Sardinia and the Italian peninsula through a double submarine cable: a new electricity corridor in the center of the Mediterranean.

At the center of the complaint is the public consultation which, during the authorization procedure phase, did not take place. «We explained - we read in the complaint - how the project was authorized without respecting the phase relating to the mandatory and necessary "public consultation" in order to obtain authorization for the construction and operation of the 500 Kv continuous network connection of power equal to 1000 MW, called Tyrrhenian Link which Terna SpA is building in the Selargius countryside and in the “Terra Mala” locality of Quartu S. Elena. Nonetheless, the project was approved."

«Public debate – we further read – is a tool foreseen not only by Italian legislation but also by European legislation, and both require that participation be effective and that therefore citizens are put in a position to participate, informing them in advance. While for both Quartu and Selargius Terna only carried out one consultation where 12 people participated in one and only 5 in the other. This is because no one had been informed in advance and despite Terna itself in its own documents, including the brochure on the outcomes of the public debate stated that it had implemented activities to disseminate the dates of the meetings. None of this happened and today we find ourselves faced with expropriations and bans on sea areas without the population being informed."

«The administrations - explained Rita Corda representing the committee - must administer with the consent of the citizens, even more so when the project involves them directly and has a great impact like this one of the Thyrrenian link. We will oppose it in every way", he promises. However, the workers have already taken action. Last week there were moments of tension between the workers and the committee representatives. An example among all, the moment in which a protester sat on a drill, blocking the progress of the works. The committee has already asked for a meeting with all the mayors of the municipalities involved in the Tyrrhenian Link to bring the issue to the attention of the President of the Region Alessandra Todde in view of a possible way out at national level.
