Excavations and traffic lights regulating one-way traffic will now be a thing of the past. Tomorrow, July 3rd, as confirmed in recent days by the Metropolitan City, Terna's construction sites for the Tyrrhenian Link, the undersea electrical connection that will connect Sardinia, Sicily, and Campania, will close on the Quartu section of the SP 17 from Marina Residence to Terra Mala.
So, the inconvenience is over, at least the ones related to the work. No more traffic jams in the middle of the road, not even on weekdays.
A breath of fresh air not only for those traveling to the beaches but especially for residents who have to commute to and from work every day. On weekends, however, construction sites were already closing regularly after the agreement between the Municipality and Terna.
The work stoppage obviously doesn't mean the end of traffic along Via Leonardo da Vinci, a road that can't handle such heavy traffic during the summer. From Via Marco Polo onward, the signage isn't very visible, the at-grade intersections are extremely dangerous, and the pedestrian crossings aren't adequately lit.
In the first stretch under the municipality's jurisdiction, pedestrian crossings were raised to the height of the railing overlooking the beach. This measure virtually eliminated traffic accidents, which were extremely frequent along that stretch, with speeding drivers crashing into the railings.
