Two big fires in the Muravera countryside: houses evacuated, helicopters in flight

Two big fires broke out in the late afternoon in the Muravera area. The Colostrai area was particularly affected. Some houses threatened by the flames have been evacuated, while from five Forestry bases in the south of the island, as many helicopters have taken off to contribute to the extinguishing operations.

The first fire started in "San Giovanni", the second instead in the locality of "Antoni Peppi". Both operations are coordinated by the forest station of the town of Sarrabus. The aircraft arrived from Villasalto, San Cosimo, Sorgono, Pula and Marganai. The talks were still going on at past 7.30pm. Some roads have been closed off for safety reasons.

During the day three other fires required the support of aircraft. In the morning in Zerfaliu in Nuraghe Iana. In the afternoon, 40 hectares of sown land were incinerated in the Samassi countryside (Pontana Cossu locality). And again in Assemini, in the locality of Sa Cannada, the fire destroyed two hectares of herbs and crops.
