The mayor of Cagliari is not there. And Paolo Truzzu, after the resignation of Giuseppe Farris, the councilor of the regional opera body, as well as vice-president of the steering committee, had his say in front of the civic assembly, meeting yesterday in the hall of Palazzo Bacaredda : «How much is what happened in the last week with regard to the opera house, I am very sorry, certainly not for myself, but for the theater and its workers », said the mayor. «I would like to remind everyone that from 2020 to today, thanks to the work of the Steering Committee, the Superintendent, the administrative director, the trade union organizations, all the masters and workers, it has been possible: to cover the losses, rebuild the assets and close the last 3 balance sheets were profitable, the last balance sheet with a profit of over 4 million, guaranteeing the theater a conspicuous liquidity that allowed us to go from a season in which suppliers waited even years to be paid to settle invoices in about 14 days , see the ministry's proposal for a workforce plan approved which will allow for the hiring of around 30 people, continuing the business during the Covid period, with only 15 days of layoffs, a trade union peace, so much so that there was only one day of strike, having seen the audience again at the theater after the pandemic and guaranteed an absolute level season, taking the theater abroad, with the important success in Oman, with all the expenses borne by the Theater of Muscat, signed an important partnership with Cagliari football and the Sardinian Union to allow the theater audience to be expanded to include younger age groups, having brought the opera performances back to many squares and theaters in Sardinia, having obtained a Pnrr loan from over 600 million euros for the energy redevelopment of the theater, having given rise for the first time in the last 20 years to recruitments through public competitions ».

That's not enough: the mayor also enters into the controversy linked to the temporary transfer of the market to Piazza Nazzari: « I also claim the decision to have positioned the temporary market of San Benedetto in Piazza Nazzari , a few hundred meters from its historical location. Because it means guaranteeing 188 concessionaires, 188 families, who struggle every day to earn a living, to be able to continue working without having to request public contributions. Public contributions that allow the Theater instead of being alive, to have its own seat, its own stage, its own programming and consequently also the security of work and salary for its workers ».

Conclusion on the institution's activity: «Finally, I would like to remind you that in the last three years more than 80% of the meetings were held in the afternoon, despite the fact that the cdi was not always complete », concludes Truzzu. «I would add that as always I have full faith in the work of the judiciary. Everyone is free to make his own assessments and express his opinion. What is not acceptable and acceptable is that someone uses the Lirico as an instrument, which cannot and must not be an instrument of political struggle . Kirico is a heritage of the city and of Sardinia, therefore we must do everything possible to keep it growing, protecting its transparency and vocation. In short, politics must be at the service of the theatre, not the theater at the service of politics».

In the evening, the rejoinder of the lawyer Farris arrived on Facebook. Addressing the mayor, he wrote: «The Lirico is not an instrument of political struggle but you have made it a place of political occupation» . And again: «The losses have been covered thanks to Covid. In fact, we didn't go on stage, but public contributions arrived anyway. The public, after the pandemic, has not returned to the Theater. In the last year, only one session was held in the afternoon. I can documentally prove what I claim», concludes Farris. "On the other hand, it's all on the Foundation's website."
