The traffic light halfway along Via Roma on the seafront is back in operation. This afternoon, exactly ten days after the long-awaited reopening of the portico side , the pedestrian crossing on Lungomare New York 11 Settembre (this is the "official" name for the stretch of road that, until August 1st, was the only passable one on Via Roma) was definitively restored to its previous state, with traffic closed in both directions—for those heading toward Piazza Matteotti and for those heading toward the Molo Ichnusa roundabout—to allow pedestrians to pass.

The red light for cars lasts about thirty seconds. The crossing previously led to the old maritime station, which was demolished in recent months to make way for a luxury hotel. Now, the pedestrian crossing takes them directly to the port area: this restoration will help avoid the (dangerous) practice seen repeatedly during this long period of construction on Via Roma , where residents of Cagliari and elsewhere often risked crossing at unofficial points in an attempt to avoid the remaining pedestrian crossings.

At the beginning of March, the traffic lights were turned off, with the associated crossing cancelled, because the Municipality of Cagliari deemed them unnecessary at that time, given that the pedestrian crossing ended directly in the now-completed construction site. At the same time, a new traffic light (direction Viale la Plaia) was installed near the ARST station, following the reopening of Piazza Matteotti . Both will remain in operation, pending further traffic changes announced by the Municipality to try to resolve the many traffic issues on Via Roma.
