One in four drivers checked last weekend in Alghero by a joint operation between traffic police and local police tested positive for drugs. Officers stepped up enforcement over the weekend, placing checkpoints and concentrating patrols at the busiest points and near Alghero's most popular nightlife spots.

During the checks, which involved a total of 31 drivers, 23% tested positive for narcotics (2 for cocaine and 5 for cannabinoids) , resulting in the immediate withdrawal of their driving licenses. The drivers who tested positive, 5 men and 2 women, had an average age of 37, with age ranges between 20 and 50. In addition to these measures, additional licenses were suspended for driving under the influence of alcohol and other traffic violations.

Continuing the goal of raising awareness about road safety and preventing accidents, the Italian State Police "Pullman Azzurro" (Blue Bus) stopped in Alghero on Saturday, offering residents and tourists the opportunity to experience driving simulators that simulate the psychophysical changes caused by alcohol and drug use, as well as screening videos on accident prevention. This multimedia bus is used nationwide for road safety education activities and awareness and prevention campaigns, with a particular focus on combating impaired driving due to drug and alcohol use.
