He swears there is no friction with the regional governor. «We certainly have different views on some issues, but we discuss these. No clashes», says the mayor of Cagliari Paolo Truzzu. One of these differences of views, indeed without fear of contradiction let's also say that there are two if we also include the match in the stadium, is on the construction of the new hospital: «I have no opposition to it, it's perfectly fine to build it. I'm just saying, however, that Brotzu cannot be questioned as it represents excellence not only for the city of Cagliari but for all of Sardinia. So we build the new hospital but, in parallel, we strengthen the existing ones».
The points of view
«The Brotzu is still an essential hospital, and for this reason not only should it not be questioned but, on the contrary, it should be strengthened». Translated: yes to the new hospital in Cagliari but hands off the Brotzu. «A new hospital takes time, just to understand how much it takes, just mention a fact: in Italy, for a public work under three million, the average for completion of the works usually takes over five years. If it is true that a hospital costs much more and we apply that parameter to average times, it is clear how much time it takes to inaugurate a new hospital».
And then he adds: «It is for this reason that if you decide to build one, you have to continue to invest in those that already exist. Only by following this path can the risk of condemning health care and therefore the citizens to death be avoided.
The areas
If now, with yesterday's latest move , the regional governor puts the ball back to some extent in the field of the municipal territories (their task is to choose the possible, probable areas where to build the hospital), the mayor goes straight and explains that «the Municipality of Cagliari has not received any requests», neither official nor unofficial, «on the areas where a new structure could possibly be built. We need to understand the needs of the Region, what kind of areas they serve». Finally, the stadium: «It must be done in Sant'Elia».
