The excellent results of the Saboris Antigus traveling exhibition convinced the municipal administrations of Trexenta and Sarcidano to bet on the tourist potential of an area which - even if far from the sea - knows how to attract visitors by opening churches and monuments and showcasing gastronomy and traditions.

The ninth edition of the event went through the towns of Gergei, Mandas, Selegas, Serri, Siurgus Donigala, Guasila, Gesico, Suelli and Nurri. "We have shown that it is possible to do tourism by focusing on culture and traditions", underlines the mayor of Mandas Umberto Oppus, particularly satisfied with the boom in visits to the Is Aiaius and Peregrinatio Fidei museums. The entire exhibition attracted over 50,000 people to the area for a turnover that exceeded one million euros between restaurants, exhibitors and products sold. In the former Duchy there are various accommodation facilities in private hands. Among these is the Antica Locanda Lunetta, the same small hotel dating back to the 16th century which in 1921 hosted the English writer David Herbert Lawrence.

A program, the tourist one linked to Saporis Antigus, was presented at the Milan International Tourism Fair. "We have been working for years to promote projects and initiatives capable of enhancing the territory, exploiting identity, environmental and cultural resources," says the mayor of Gergei, Rossano Zedda. The cultural and taste review, between November and December of each year, attracts crowds of visitors to the small villages of Gesico, Gergei, Guasila, Mandas, Nurri, Selegas, Serri, Siurgus Donigala and Suelli. There are so many things to see: from ancient houses to historical monuments and archaeological sites, without neglecting the practical demonstrations of the work of hobbyists and craftsmen, the tasting of local food and wine products, activities and workshops for children and teenagers.
