Sting for a fishing vessel caught by the Coast Guard fishing illegally in the Gulf of Cagliari.

On the evening of May 30th, the Port Authority coordinated an air-naval surveillance operation aimed precisely at combating fishing activity in prohibited areas in the sea of the capital.

«The activity, conducted with the helicopter of the Helicopter Section of the Decimomannu Coast Guard and the CP577 patrol boat of the Port Authority of Cagliari, was aimed at verifying compliance with the regulations on fishing throughout the gulf of Cagliari from the Marine Area Protected from Capo Carbonara up to Capo Teulada", explains a note.

And precisely as part of the operation, which took place after sunset, «the helicopter flew over and monitored the gulf thanks to the infrared system supplied, reporting the information to the operations room, while the patrol boat carried out its controls, ready to intervene where necessary."

Around 11pm, a vessel was identified intent on trawling in a non-permitted area, precisely at a distance from the coast of less than 3 miles on a seabed of less than 50 metres. Having reached the fishing vessel, the Coast Guard troops took steps to stop the illegal fishing activity. The commander now risks up to 6,000 euros in fines. Two further fines of 400 euros in total were also imposed for violation of the armament table (i.e. the number of crew members on board) and for irregular boarding of personnel.

The fishing equipment was instead seized.
