Sustainable mobility and urban development were the central themes of the conference held this morning at the MeM, organized by the Brothers of Italy council group in the Municipality of Cagliari.
"Citizens," explained party leader Pierluigi Mannino, "must be free to choose how to travel, and politics should defend this freedom rather than constrain people's choices according to a particular vision."

Speakers at the meeting included Salvatore Deidda, a member of the Brothers of Italy party and chairman of the Chamber of Deputies' Transport Committee; Fabrizio Rodin, president of the CTM; Giovanni Corona, former president of the CTM and professor of Transport Economics; Francesco Annunziata, an engineer and academic at the University of Cagliari; Proto Tilocca, a transport operator and head of the CTM's Directorate of Participated Companies; Marco Mainas, president of Confcommercio Sud Sardegna; and Renato Diana, a delegate from Gioventù Nazionale.
Numerous technical issues were examined, from traffic to transportation, including parking areas. "In Cagliari," Mannino emphasized, "180,000 cars pour into the city every day, adding to the number of vehicles already present. What we can observe is that today there is a lack of solutions to manage the inevitable impact this situation entails: this represents a cost to the community. Today we can say that historically, there has been a lack of courage to pursue certain decisions, such as the sub-port tunnel, which would have brought great benefits to a key hub for the city . Even on the issue of parking, the solutions currently sought to address the problem are little more than palliatives."

Attention also focused on transportation: "The metro, which isn't a subway but a tram, in addition to blocking the city with construction, won't solve any of Cagliari's mobility problems . Indeed," the Brothers of Italy group leader pointed out, "it will only interfere with road transport, creating further problems. The long-term solution can only be a true underground transportation network, both metro and funicular, like the San Benedetto-Piazza Yenne connection system already in place. Unfortunately, Cagliari has lagged behind other cities on this front, but it's never too late to reopen a discussion, and we have done just that today," Mannino concluded.
