Carbonia residents are exasperated by the stench that has been spreading through their buildings for months, and by the costs, which they're currently paying out of pocket, of paying for sewer cleaning. Meanwhile, the local health authority (ASL) is requesting Area's intervention.

For weeks, residents have been experiencing severe hardship in the public housing blocks on Via Pascoli , on the southern outskirts of the city, one of the communities that emerged in the late 1930s with the construction of Carbonia. For some time, sewage has been leaking from a faulty sewer system due to the now periodic breakage of an old pipe that has never been modernized.

The system is managed by the Regional Housing Authority, which owns the buildings, but for months, residents have been paying for the costs necessary to mitigate the sanitation problems , which were recently confirmed by an inspection by technicians from the local health authority. Area has agreed to intervene. However, for now, the residents are still contracting the private sewer cleaning service.
