The summer in Cagliari is worth 450,000 euros in tourist tax. The same amount that had been collected in the first six months of 2022 (January to June). And a little less than what had entered the whole of 2021: the amount for one year had been quantified at 552,009.50 euros, which have not yet been fully paid.
The figures were pitted this morning during the meeting of the municipal Productive Activities commission, chaired by Pierluigi Mannino (FdI). The competent councilor (Alessandro Sorgia), the mayor Paolo Truzzu and the managers of the sectors concerned (Financial Statements and Tourism) were called to speak.
A problem had emerged in the city council: the tourist tax - collected by the owners of accommodation businesses and paid by tourists - was introduced in January 2021 but since then the allocation of resources had not been planned.
The first “accounting” answers arrived today. In the 2022 budget, an income of one million and 250 thousand euros is expected (1.3 for the next few years, while in 2021 just 600 thousand had been entered). But the ceiling could be exceeded thanks to the presences of the last quarter. «We record good numbers for the end of the year», explains Mannino, «and also October and November didn't go badly at all».
The programmed sum finances three items of expenditure: 163,904.93 are intended for the reactivation of the tourist information points, one million and 74 thousand euros are addressed to the item "organization and participation in events and other provision of services aimed at developing and enhancing the tourism” and 11,603.99 will go to the extraordinary maintenance of works of art.
To understand how the tourists' money will be used concretely, we have to wait a bit: «We asked the operators to provide us with their information within the middle of the month», underlines Mannino, «and then we will adopt the consequent acts. The comparison with the protagonists of the sector, which I started some time ago, is necessary to reach shared solutions».
