A "treasure" that in 2024 will exceed the record figure of 976 million and in 2025 will rise to over 1 billion 52 million. This is the total revenue from the tourist tax according to Jfc calculations, published in advance by Ansa, with Sardinia taking home about 25 million euros this year too. To be precise: 24 million 892 thousand euros.
Among the regions, however , Lazio stands out with a revenue of over 295 million, followed by Lombardy with 108 million 235 thousand, Tuscany with 100 million 360 thousand and Veneto with 98 million 9 thousand.
"Truly monstrous figures," comments Massimo Feruzzi, CEO of JFC, "which show us how this tax is considered by municipalities to be an essential tool for acquiring resources, most of which are used for non-tourist interventions."
Revenues are also expected to grow in 2025, when, according to JFC, a +7.8% increase in revenue is expected, for a national total of over 1.5 billion,
«Already today - Feruzzi continues - we can see increases, even significant ones, from a variety of public administrations : from Capaccio Paestum, Novara, Oulx and Marsala which are essentially doubling the rates, to the increases of various kinds that will have to be paid to stay in Milan, Bologna, Bolzano, Pesaro, Perugia, Vicenza, Viterbo, Limone, Gargnano, Cesenatico, Sirmione, Poggibonsi, Chiavari, Bardolino, Rapallo, Salò, etc. for a total of 53 Municipalities that have already taken steps in this direction. Then there are those Municipalities that will introduce the tax starting from 2025. In this case too, it concerns 25 municipal administrations: from Udine and Caserta, from Bellaria Igea Marina to Bagheria, from Termoli to Pavia, but it will also be paid in Quartu Sant'Elena , Crema, Torre del Greco, Castel Volturno, Ponti sul Mincio, etc., while in another 27 Municipalities there is discussion regarding a possible introduction».
At a national level, there is a constant rush to increase the rates of this tax: several administrators openly declare that they are increasing the tourist tax because they are forced to do so due to "the cuts imposed by this budget maneuver" , while others justify this decision by stating that "the tourist tax is being adjusted upwards to deal with the problems of overtourism", without however explaining what these measures are.
«In short, what is still missing, after 15 years since its reintroduction, is clarity on the real use of these funds because, as many affirm, these resources are increasingly used to cover budget holes of the Municipalities», concludes Jfc.
