Expensive transport keeps Italian tourists away from Sardinia . «It was a June quite in line with expectations. Foreign customers have chosen the island as their holiday destination, as confirmed by data from ports and airports». But there are also the numbers of national connections "which show us the drop in arrivals from the peninsula".

This is the analysis of the president of Federalberghi, Paolo Manca, who looks at the immediately past and future flows that will feed the tourism industry for the 2023 season.

Italians can move to other destinations such as Puglia, Turkey, Greece or Malta, without the need to take a ship and a plane, or in any case at low cost. Before, their average stay was about ten days, now due to the crisis it has decreased: «And if a family of three used to spread the cost of the trip, which is around 1,000 euros, over that period, now maybe it doesn't for three or five days on the island. It becomes prohibitive».

But it won't be a negative season, «because international customers have started to arrive again. Even if the lion's share, between July and August, has always been made by the Italians».
