Abandoned for years, despite the large amount of traffic, the ex Carlo Felice road is in terrible conditions, which has now given rise to protests, following yet another road accident .

The road is the main entrance and exit from Macomer and the industrial area towards Cagliari, crossed daily by thousands of motorists and heavy vehicles transporting waste from half of Sardinia to the waste-to-energy plant, but also by various commercial businesses and the logistics centers of two large food companies.

Long-term lack of maintenance has transformed the narrow, inadequate road into a constant hazard, characterized by deep potholes, craters, deteriorated asphalt, landslides, and a lack of road signs. It has become the scene of numerous road accidents, often with serious consequences, and constantly endangers the safety of motorists.

"We can't take it anymore," says Danilo Masala, councilor for public works for the Municipality of Macomer. "That road, along with the other arteries (which are the entrances to our town), has been abandoned for years . It's not enough to carry out the usual, useless patchwork; we need more substantial work to make it at least safe and adequate for the amount of traffic . It needs to be widened, and therefore work needs to be done to make it safe, especially in the area crossed by the Tossilo stream, which often overflows and floods the roadway, endangering the lives of many people. Enough is enough; we need to take appropriate action, including investing significant resources that go beyond the usual patchwork."

Provincial President Giuseppe Ciccolini responded promptly: "We have many open fronts throughout the province, but the Tossilo road is a priority for us. We're coming off a rather rainy winter, which created many critical issues, which we intend to resolve by starting work to overcome the most significant ones. We're waiting for good weather to intervene. Regarding the landslide front, we've allocated significant resources for the construction of retaining walls. Work should begin shortly. Widening the road requires significant resources, which the authority currently lacks."
