Goodbye to Assuntina Piras, the grandmother from Tortolì who, last November 15th, turned 101. He breathed his last at 2.30am last night.

With Arzana blood but roots in Tortolì, where she had lived since she was a child, the lady was married to Luigino Loddo (who passed away in 2006, at the age of 85), with whom she had seven children. In recent years grandmother Assuntina was looked after in the house in via Monsignor Virgilio by her daughter Caterina.

Assuntina arrived at the age of 5 in what was at the time a small village. It was 1927, when the parents moved to Tortolì to work in the fields. The woman managed a grocery store in Via Monsignor Virgilio between the end of the 1950s and the beginning of the 1970s. These were the years of the development of the Arbatax paper mill and she, in that strategic position where the shop was located, sold stuffed sandwiches to caravans of workers, as well as delivering snacks to local schools.

Funeral tomorrow morning in the church of Sant'Andrea.
