On the verge of turning one hundred, Assunta Pili only surrendered to a sudden illness. The grandmother from Tortolì , who turned 99 last October 12th, was rescued yesterday morning by healthcare personnel and transported by the Areus helicopter to the San Francesco hospital in Nuoro where she died in the middle of last night.

Cardio-respiratory problems cut short her life, which until then had been spent in great shape and in perfect clarity, always surrounded by children and grandchildren who adored her. Although the rescue was timely and Echo Lima 1, arriving from Olbia, carried out the flight of hope, grandmother Assunta, historical memory of Tortolì, did not make it, despite her fighting strength.

A woman of profound faith, Assunta Pili has often shared stories and memories of the Tortolì of the past. He did this through interviews, which he gave to the media, and meetings with younger people, intrigued by the events that marked time in the last century. Assunta Pili was one of the last survivors of the tobacco industry founded in the 1920s by Monsignor Virgilio.
