Rail traffic has been paralyzed since 11:00 this morning on the Cagliari-bound line, with severe repercussions for passengers. Train traffic was halted in both directions between San Gavino and Sanluri after a person was spotted walking on the tracks as a train approached.
The incident occurred just outside San Gavino. The driver of the train departing from Oristano and headed for Cagliari, noticing the man on the tracks, activated the emergency procedure and stopped the train.
Traffic remained blocked on the affected stretch of road while law enforcement officers responded to the scene. At least two trains were temporarily suspended, with inevitable repercussions on service. Passengers experienced significant inconvenience, some of whom reported delays and the risk of missing appointments, medical appointments, and connections, including flights. To limit the impact of the disruption, several buses were also made available to passengers.
The situation was resolved at 12:21 PM, when normal rail traffic between San Gavino and Sanluri was resumed in both directions. Meanwhile, the person on the tracks was taken into custody by law enforcement.
