Thousands of passengers, zero services. At the train station in Piazza Matteotti, in Cagliari, the bar has also closed. The space also houses the tobacconist's. "Administrative reasons" is written on the sheets of paper posted on the windows, behind the lowered shutters. Inside, there is still the merchandise. A situation perhaps linked to the recent death of the historic owner.
But that of the refreshment point - which should reopen - is just the latest in a long series of shutters that make the station desolate. There is nothing left.
The Lorrai brothers closed their barber shop in 2014 . There is no newsstand. Dust remained in the shop windows. The sign for the Blue room is lit, which should house the service that must guarantee assistance to passengers with reduced mobility. In the hall there are workers at work, it is inaccessible. The parapharmacy has been abandoned for years.
On the side of the bar there are at least ten doors that could be the entrances to as many activities. They are closed: in transparency you can glimpse household goods and abandoned wooden platforms. In the center, before the old locomotive, there is a large display case where Sardinian clothes (inevitable) worn by mannequins were once exhibited: it is empty.
The ticket office is active, at least that. And at the entrance there is a kind girl with a Trenitalia harness: she is available and attentive. It doesn't have an office, but a banquet on wheels. He stands next to the chapel: who knows if, at least there, the interlocutor gives some answers.
