More than two million and 300 thousand euros in fines for tax and administrative violations, 35 irregular slot machines seized, 115 kilos of sand and shells recovered in the luggage of tourists departing from the airports and ports of Sardinia.

These are some of the results achieved in 2022 by the staff of the regional directorate of the Customs and Monopolies Agency. Numbers that have been highlighted by Roberto Chiara, director of national administration and finance, and Gianluigi D'Urso, new regional director from April 1st. «Excise duties totaling 728 million euros were collected», Chiara said, «and 69 million in customs duties collected. Increasing revenues compared to 2021».

Tax licenses, company codes, and customs authorizations are also growing: "This means a recovery of the Sardinian economy after the difficult years of Covid," explained D'Urso.

The Agency's checks led to fines for 2,364,000 euros and the fight against illicit currency trafficking made it possible to issue 28 reports for 14 thousand euros in administrative fines. Fraud in gaming with slots and machines disconnected from the legal network is not decreasing, indeed increasing.

Many operations in the port and airport for the recovery of sand stolen from the beaches of the island. Relevant operations also in the phytosanitary field with the seizure of uncertified seeds but also kilos of animal products without documentation and as many as 72 thousand kilos of poor quality and illegal pellets.

A fraud for importing cars from Germany without paying VAT has also been discovered. The Agency collaborates with its experts for the analysis of products in its well-equipped chemical laboratory at the request of the police.
