With about a month to go until summer begins, Sardinia is already preparing for its first taste of intense heat. A summery interlude is expected in the coming days, with temperatures rising sharply, reaching up to 6-7°C above the seasonal average. Lorenzo Tedici, meteorologist at iLMeteo.it, confirms this: the abnormal heat will begin to be felt significantly in the next few hours. By Sunday, Italy will reach typical summer temperatures in several regions, with central and northern Italy leading the way.

According to forecasts, the island will experience typical July temperatures, with peaks around 30-31°C in inland areas and major cities. This is a preview of the typical summer conditions that will affect much of the country.

The key day will be Wednesday, May 27, when a true "hot triangle" will form between Lower Piedmont, Emilia, and eastern Lombardy. Piacenza, Cremona, and Mantua will record 35°C, while Alessandria, Asti, Florence, Grosseto, La Spezia, Modena, Pavia, and many other cities in central and northern Italy will reach 34°C. In the South , however, temperatures will be slightly lower: this apparent anomaly will be dictated by the position of the African anticyclone : the high pressure structure will position its center of gravity over the English Channel, expanding from there toward Italy and hitting our central and northern regions more directly with its scorching air.

The scenario could change later. Looking at long-term trends, mathematical models indicate a possible reversal. An influx of cooler air from the Balkans could collide with the enormous amount of warm, moist air accumulated in the lowlands over the previous days. This mix risks generating severe thunderstorms, especially in central and southern Italy. The second half of next week could therefore prove markedly unstable: beautiful, sunny mornings followed by stormy afternoons.
