The Sassari Brigade celebrates 108 years since its establishment and is awarded the silver cross for activities in support of the regional health service in the fight against the pandemic.

The ceremony to celebrate the event took place in Cagliari inside the Monfenera barracks . The commander of the Southern Operational Forces, army corps general Giuseppenicola Tota, the president of the regional council Michele Pais, numerous civil, religious and military authorities of the island were present.

In his speech, Brigadier General Giuseppe Bossa, commander of the "Sassari", underlined how the Brigade over the years has become a symbol of Sardinia and the pride of the Sardinian people with great professional skills and guarantees of efficiency.

The salient moment of the celebration, the delivery of the silver cross by General Tota to the "prestigious unit employed on the front line in contrasting the spread of a very serious pandemic, did its utmost, with tireless commitment and exceptional professionalism, in a daily and essential activity of sanitization of military and civilian structures - reads the motivation that accompanied the award - During the first emergency phase, it directed all its resources towards the creation of the tampon administration points in the Sardinia Region and, subsequently, guaranteed the timely and precious transport of vaccines throughout the island, limiting the spread of infections and thus contributing to saving many human lives.
