The agents of the Flying Squad and the Quartu Sant'Elena Commissariat arrested a 40-year-old from Cagliari , already known to the police, involved in numerous scams against the elderly in Cagliari and in the hinterland.

The 40-year-old - the investigators explain - used to approach his victims by introducing himself as an old family friend, a fishmonger , in financial difficulty. He then offered some "very fresh" fish that had remained unsold and asked for the money, usually 100 euros, to be given in advance . Then he would go away to pick up the goods, which he said he had left in the car. Instead, it faded away .

Dozens of people scammed , with the latest episode dating back to last week.

The man was placed under house arrest , at the behest of the Cagliari investigating judge.
