The plane carrying blood bags lands, but the situation remains at its highest: "Donations are declining."

For twenty-four hours, Sardinia experienced a terrifying emergency , which kept everyone in suspense.

"We risked running out of blood ," explains Giulia Fadda, director of the Immunohematology and Transfusion Center at Arnas Brotzu , "because a delivery from outside failed because the plane that was supposed to bring us 200 blood bags from the mainland failed to arrive on Thursday night . I had to alert everyone: we needed to suspend non-urgent surgeries; postpone transfusions for thalassemic patients if possible; limit the inconvenience to patients with hematologic oncology; protect those who travel many kilometers for their treatment—there are children who come to Microcitemico from Porto Torres and La Maddalena—and use the little we had available with the utmost caution, especially because there have been two serious road accidents, so the demand has increased."   ».

The company in charge of the deliveries, however, moved quickly, and at eleven o'clock on Friday   Yesterday night, a dedicated cargo plane landed at Elmas airport with the bulk of the imported cargo. "We'll make up for lost time over the weekend."

The emergency is over, but in Sardinia there's never enough blood , partly due to the decline in donations caused by the aging population. But that's not all.
