The construction site will start in February, it will be completed by the beginning of 2029 and from then on the new port channel will welcome all the traffic of ferries and ro-ro ships that pass through Cagliari, sending the historic port into "retirement".

The tender for the construction of the new Cagliari commercial port has been awarded : it will be born on the western bank of the Porto Canale. A group of companies made up of Rcm Costruzioni Srl, Fincosit Srl, Società Italiana Dragaggi Spa and Impresa Pellegrini Srl will take care of the works: the amount is more than 287 million (+3.8 for safety charges), while the total value of the The intervention is almost 338 million , 99.35 are in fact financed with funds from the National Plan for Complementary Investments to the Pnrr. The internal road system will be financed with a further 10 million euros of Pnrr-Zes funds.

Six moorings are foreseen, with a maneuvering basin with a depth of 11 metres. The area will be divided into 5 squares which will host approximately 2,500 parking bays for semi-trailers , including 52 for the parking of dangerous goods.

A passenger terminal of approximately 1,800 square meters , which includes a public area with a waiting room, customs and security checks and services. Another area will be reserved for ticket offices, law enforcement offices, maritime health and the first aid clinic.

On the upper floor, covering approximately 1,200 square metres , are the offices of the Port System Authority and a restaurant with a panoramic terrace , which can also be accessed directly from the embarkation lanes by passengers with cars.

It will be a green port, the project shows: trees, photovoltaic panels and 12 charging stations for electric cars .
