The Macomer socio-health district is a candidate to become a center for the international research project on Alzheimer's and dementia. The prestigious international scientific team leading the project on dementia in Sardinia, coordinated by the Cnr, stopped in Macomer in recent days.

The Macomer health district boasts an Alzheimer's evaluation unit centre, divided into two clinics, to which 800 patients refer, also coming from neighboring territories and from different local health authorities. The stop in Macomer of the scientific team, with a US delegation, made up of luminaries in the field of genetics and in the field of dementia, is part of a stay in Sardinia in which the head of the research, Francesco Cucca, the director of the Irgb, Marcella Devoto, the neurologist Maria Rita Piras and the head of the Irgb of Lanusei, Edoardo Fiorillo.

«The Macomer district - explains the director, Maria Giovanna Porcu - will be an important collection facility for patients suffering from Alzheimer's or dementia associated with ageing. After this preliminary visit we will proceed with the recruitment of patients who will be an integral part of the research project."
