Time passes and the picture is increasingly black. The bleeding is unstoppable: in Sardinia the population continues to decline - almost 10 thousand fewer souls in a year - the decline mainly concerns the small municipalities already decimated (there are many old people and few young people) and also life expectancy at birth it gets worse. Men lose about half a year, women almost one.

The data

The data from the latest Istat census released yesterday confirms the trend. As of December 31, 2022, there were 1,578,146 residents, compared to 1,587,413 twelve months earlier. A sad fate that unites all the regions of the South. At a national level the decline is -32,932 units. The report shows that among the cities with over 100 thousand inhabitants, Cagliari and Sassari have also entered into the dynamics of subtraction, generally due to an excess of deaths over births and the emigration of children, only partially compensated by the foreigners arriving.
