There are three arrests for the arson attack that on April 14, 2022 destroyed the Esso service station in viale Marconi in Cagliari, in front of the former Videolina headquarters.

The police identified and arrested the three alleged instigators and material executors. Two other people ended up in handcuffs because they were involved in the burning of a car in Sestu on December 27th.

The five arrested, all from Cagliari, aged between 33 and 52, ended up in prison in execution of an order from the magistrate. They will have to answer for arson in competition.

The two episodes would be connected since one of the perpetrators of the attack in Sestu is the same one who allegedly set the fire at the petrol station.

In the night between 14 and 15 April 2022, the flames, devastating and starting from a stolen waste collection vehicle and used as a trigger, had quickly enveloped one of the fuel delivery pumps, the till, the internal bar and a mechanical workshop.

THE INVESTIGATIONS – The men of the Flying Squad, section for crimes against property, coordinated by the Cagliari Public Prosecutor's Office, reconstructed the story through images of the vending machine's video surveillance system and telephone and environmental interceptions that lasted almost a year.

The motive: the revenge of the owner of a body shop in Cagliari against the managers of the supplier. In 2016 they had sued him for using counterfeit banknotes to buy petrol and tobacco. Just a few days before the raid, the coachbuilder had been notified of the decree ordering the indictment.

THE RAID - The instigator would then have asked two of those arrested to take action. That night, the two stole a truck belonging to a waste collection company, parked in the Quartucciu depot. Then they placed it in the petrol station and set it on fire with petrol. The camera images clearly show the bomber at work, he even risks being engulfed in flames.

The analysis that the investigators of the Flying Squad made on a tablet stolen together with the truck and then purchased by an unsuspecting student from the capital was decisive. By tracing the receiver of the tablet, the policemen identified the alleged perpetrators of the theft of the truck.

During the investigation, the responsibility of another of the arrested also emerged as the instigator of the car fire that took place in Sestu in December 2022. The motive, a dispute at work between the man, a trader, and one of his employees, the owner of the vehicle. The woman's Lancia Y had been completely destroyed.

Those arrested were taken to the Uta prison to await the guarantee interrogation.

In the same investigation, two Bosnians were investigated for fencing the stolen tablet. The two arrested who set fire to the petrol station were also investigated for the theft of the truck.
